Events Committee

The Role of the Events Committee

The Events Committee is responsible for organising the Society’s programme of events – which includes talks, walks, visits to places of interest within Battersea and across London, open days and evenings, stalls and events as part of local fairs and festivals, eating out experiences, general meetings, etc.

These events are predominately for members only, but there are several public meetings on local issues such as housing, health, etc, Commemorative Plaque unveilings and pre-election hustings along with some public events to attract new members such as the annual Film Night at the Royal College of Art that are also organised and run by the Committee.

The events are self funding and any profit made is used by the Society for other activities such as support or sponsorship of third party local events and activities.

Activities of the Events Committee include:

  • Researching and booking venues, visits, private tours, speakers, etc for the events programme.

  • Liaising with institutions and venues on access, payments, etc.

  • Promoting the events via Battersea Society membership newsletter and Battersea Matters, plus via the website and on social media.

  • For public events posters and third party promotional materials are created and produced and local press are contacted.

  • Organising for trustees and members to help in the setting up and manning of stalls, entry desks, bars etc at the events.

  • Transporting necessary equipment, and refreshments, to each event – and storing everything when the events are not taking place.

  • Attending each and every event taking place throughout the year.

  • Carrying out all administration for members’ bookings and payments for events including confirmation emails and letters prior to each event happening.

  • Liaising with local institutions and organisations to increase the variety and venues of the Society events.

  • Holding bi-monthly meetings to update and report on visit/talk attendance and feedback and plan future events.

  • Working with the Society’s website developer to create and administer the members online events booking facility and any PayPal payments linked to that.
