Telecommunications Pole Battersea Park: 2020/2853

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council
Added on: 17 September 2020 at 17:21:50

The Battersea Society Planning Committee objects strongly to this application to locate a 20m telecommunications pole and associated equipment in this highly visible location in the centre of Battersea Park which, as the Conservation Area Appraisal emphasises, is a Grade 2* listed Registered Historic Park and Garden of outstanding landscape interest.

If erected this telecommunications ‘pole’ would be highly intrusive. It would affect the views across the park towards the Power Station (included as significant in the Council’s Local Views guidance) as well as the view across the park westwards, when walking down from the Chelsea Bridge entrance. We consider the application runs counter to Policies DMS2c and DMS9.

No visuals are provided of how the pole would sit in the landscape of the Park and adjacent skyline. Likewise the need for this pole and discussion of alternative sites is weak. It is not clear whether other networks have reception problems and the extent to which their poles could be shared by the consortium submitting this application.

These issues should be addressed before the Planning Applications Committee takes any decision. The application should also urgently be considered by the Wandsworth Conservation Areas Consultative Committee.
