Dominvs Hotel - 2021/4900

The Battersea Society maintains its objection to these revised proposals which are proposed to be built so close to the roadway along both Nine Elms and Ponton Road as to leave inadequate space for drop off, servicing and essential parking.  This will be to the considerable detriment of traffic flow along both Nine Elms and Ponton Road, the latter a key route to other buildings along Nine Elms, to the US Embassy and to Waitrose.  Adding trees along the centre of this busy side road will merely exacerbate the problem.

We note that these are intended to be mid-priced hotel offers and this suggests it is essential to allow off-road space for coaches to drop off and pick up guests. We find it hard to see that the provision of one disabled space on a public layby and a small number of cycle stands – again within the public domain – will be adequate for the 837 hotel ‘keys’ now proposed.

We assume that adequate disabled parking space is to be provided for employees although we cannot immediately see information about this.

We do not agree that these two buildings at 11 and 15 storeys will be ‘subservient’ to the US Embassy.  One hotel building will sit proud of the Embassy and obscure views from the west.

It is clear that the Design Review Panel continues to find these proposals concerning. As currently presented these plans will be to the detriment of the occupants and operators of many of its neighbouring buildings along the south of Nine Elms Lane and Battersea Park Road and to all those travelling along these roads.

We urge officers to call for much improved proposals before putting this application to the Planning Application Committee.
