Land r/o 240 Battersea Bridge Road, 2016/1124
The Battersea Society objects most strongly to this unneighbourly overdevelopment of a small site in Colestown Street to the rear of 240 Battersea Bridge Road. The property is within the Battersea Park Conservation Area.
The application gives scant information about the proposal other than showing the building in outline and describing the materials proposed. The design includes anachronistic features such as a modern front balcony which would be to the detriment of the streetscape. The few details given do not appear to have taken into account the comments made in the report refusing the previous application for this site other than reducing the height by one storey.
There is no sense that there has been any consideration of the adverse effect of the building on neighbours or of any more suitable options for this very small site. Neighbours tell us that they have not been approached by the developer to discuss this new application.
The garages themselves do not enhance the Battersea Park Conservation area but at least have the merit of having weathered into the streetscape.
We cannot see any benefit in this proposal which appears to breach a substantial number of policies within the recently adopted Development Management Policies Document (March 2016). We trust the Council will reject this application.
