Ship House, 2016/0988
The Battersea Society objects to this application for an un-neighbourly over-development of the site which will have an adverse impact on the facilities of existing buildings and add to the traffic hazard of a very narrow entry from a busy, yet narrow, road.
We do not agree that glazing is necessarily less obtrusive and prefer the existing mansard which is more appropriate within the surrounds of this part of the Battersea Square Conservation Area. As is the height of the building.
We are perplexed at this proposal for added office space when, unless we are mistaken, the applicant has recently sought consent to change space within the building from office to residential – presumably arguing that the spaces cannot be let. Applications 2015/5497 and 6034 refer.
Finally we cannot do better than to refer to the objection comment by the Rosehill Corporation and Favus Corporation.
Summary of Objection
The proposals, if approved, would result in a bulky, obtrusive development which would fail to respect the character and appearance of the Battersea Square Conservation Area and adjacent LB’s, including our properties, one of which is grade II* listed. Furthermore, the proposals, by virtue of increased overlooking and loss of outlook, would be harmful to the amenity we currently enjoy, and the amenity of other nearby properties. The application should therefore be refused
We endorse these views and urge the Council to refuse this application.
