575C Battersea Park Road, 2014/6715
The Battersea Society objects to this application, in substance on the grounds given for previous refusals, upheld by the planning inspector, and most recently given in pre-application discussions relating to this proposal and reviewed in the Planning Statement.
We appreciate that care has been taken in the preparation and presentation of the proposals but we cannot agree that these meet the necessary criteria for a building on this prominent and sensitive site.
This is the wrong building for this site because:
- It would restrict views of, interfere with, and harm the setting of Christchurch Gardens and the views along Battersea Park Road.
- Even at four storeys it is too tall for the setting. The design is visually intrusive and inappropriate in the context of the surrounding buildings.
- It distracts from, and intrudes upon, the pleasing buildings to the north and south as well as on Christchurch and the gardens.
There are a considerable number of restaurants, cafes and takeaways along Battersea Park Road and in Battersea High Street. It is our impression that many struggle to survive and that added competition would exacerbate this and might itself not prove successful.
We hope that the application will be refused.
