Land adjacent to 1-5 Gowrie Road, 2016/5528
The Battersea Society objects to this application which is for a poorly designed over-development of a small piece of open land. This land should either be retained and maintained by local people or used by the Council for housing of benefit to key workers within London. Funds given as ‘affordable housing in lieu’ could be used to develop such housing here within the borough rather than further away with the consequent damage to the community.
We are saddened by the fact that this land, formerly belonging to the community, has been sold by the council with a clear understanding that an attached plan, apparently drawn up by a former planning officer, will be approved. See page 1 of the Design and Access Statement.
It is a matter of further regret that the purchaser has not bothered to consider plans more sympathetic to its neighbour or the surrounding streetscape, merely offering these plans as consistent with those provided by the Council itself.
We trust that the officers and the Planning Applications Committee will refuse this application.
