313 Battersea Park Road, 2016/5617
The Battersea Society objects to this application to extend this relatively new building and to the suggestion that this will offer senior living accommodation rather than focussing on the supply of badly needed care home facilities for local people. The problems which led to the closure of this facility were to do with standards of care and management rather than lack of appropriate facilities.
This current application suggests that the need for increased space and higher standards are more to do with the type of facility the owners wish to offer rather than any statutory requirement for improvement.
The proposed building would be an over-development of the site – already at the margins of acceptable height when rebuilt in 2012. It is an unneighbourly and inappropriate proposal for this location close to the Battersea Park Conservation Area and set apart from the older higher rise blocks to the south and east.
The application is inadequate in its consideration of the local impact of parking by visitors and staff and in its plans for medical care in relation to the residents.
This is an unsatisfactory proposal and should be refused.
