Windward, Leeward and Hope Buildings, 2014/3329
The Battersea Society object to the proposed designs for the consented additions. We do not share the view that these designs are an attractive ‘counterpoint’ to the existing architecture but rather see them as an unhappy addition to buildings which, whatever your view of their design, have some integrity within that design.
The additions take up too much of the overall mass of the finished buildings to be merely an attractive complement to the existing buildings. They will indeed be a focal point within the area, but not in a good way.
It is our view that these proposals run counter to planning policies DMS1 a. and b.
a. The designs show a lack of physical integration with their surroundings
b. The design will not contribute positively to local spatial character but rather obtrude onto the streetscape to its detriment
We commend the comments of the Wandsworth Design Review Panel to the developers and hope that they will withdraw this current application and present new proposals
